Alfonso Cuaron, director of Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban & Y Tu Mama Tambien, has made an exhilarating action thriller with a powerful social message. It is somewhat grim, but not depressing given the subject matter. It takes place in the not too distant future in a world in which humans have lost the ability to reproduce. I don’t like knowing too much about a movie before I see it so I won’t give too much away here. I found it very exciting and entertaining. I really enjoyed it. The acting is amazing: Clive Owen, Julianne Moore & Michael Caine. "Thrilling, important, and invigoratingly bleak, Children of Men is one of the very best movies to come out in 2006." I love how you and John have completely different takes on the movie.
I'd have to say I am somewhere between Mark's response and John's. I don't think John gave the acting and cinematography justice. It was brilliantly directed, and the juxtaposition and imagery was amazing. However, it left me wanting more. I'm getting tired of movies that keep leaving out information you know the audience wants to hear. Perhaps they think it is 'cool' to leave it up to the imagination of the viewer, but I want to go to see a movie and be entertained - I don't want to have to make up half the plot/setting in my head because the director thought it was fun to leave it out.
